Enflamed

Apparently I have to be driven to post by extreme emotion.

Here's the post (h/t Deacon Kandra)

http://deacbench.blogspot.com/2009/05/who-is-real-catholic.html

A couple of the commenters made me livid to the point of tears. My response:

These quotes from above posters make me so angry I probably should go to confession.HOW DARE YOU? How dare you say "my way or the high-way"? We do not belong to The Church of _________ "fill in your name"

Ya know what, God didn't call the perfect, the sinless, the strong. A stuttering murderer was called to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. Prostitutes and Tax collectors were called to dine with Jesus. The Pharisees who tried to trip up Jesus were pretty much shut down. The woman at the well with 7 "husbands" {the current not her own} was invited to drink "living water".

"I'd rather have a smaller Church filled with faith-filled, morally grounded members, than a big Church that stands for pop culture, regardless of its hedonistic tendencies."

"Is there a link to why this man convert bothered joining?

Maybe many Catholics are really discovering the Catholic church is not what they are and should leave it, instead of attempting to make her over into their image."

Hi. I saw your comment at the Deacon's Bench and I agree with you. Sometimes, I get so upset by reading comments in blogs and news posts that I want to tear my hair out screaming and kicking to get away from all the uncharitable and unchristian things said.

Anyway... it's nice to know there are other Catholics who get upset by such things.

I usually go on blog reading hiatus from time to time because it makes me so crazy.

I understand your frustration

Maria - I totally agree with you. It's good to know that people get it. I tend to go on hiatuses (hiati??) from comments.

Alberto - Thanks

Greetings and peace. I too am among the frustrated over this post. Frustrated? Perhaps heartbroken works better.

You say to Maria that you go on hiatuses from the comments... as do I. And for every comment that I write at Deacon Greg's, there are 10 I do not write.

My own Catholic journey has been slow and if I had been around the more strident, how would I have even had a Catholic journey in my adult life?

One thing that blogging has done for me is to bring into focus how easy it is to judge and how hard it is to just be.

Snup - suspected heretics are welcome around me. They make life interesting :P

Fran - Since I started interneting, it has been fascinating to see that on so-called "Christian" and/or "Catholic" blogs I have seen the nastiest behavior.

There's a sticker that says this:

"I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.” ~Gandhi

The first time I saw it was in the classroom where I teach religion sometimes.
